FJD RM21 Robotic Mower: UK Buyer’s Guide

If you are considering the FJD RM21 for a golf course, sports ground, estate or other large maintained site, the most useful question is not whether robotic mowing works in principle. It is whether the RM21 fits your terrain, required finish, workload and operating model.

What is the FJD RM21?

The RM21 is a professional multi-functional robotic mower from FJ Dynamics. It combines autonomous mowing with RTK and LiDAR positioning and can be configured with optional attachments for tasks including line marking, ball collection, grass collection and dew brushing.

Grass Robotics supplies, commissions and supports FJ Dynamics professional turf equipment in the UK. For full current specifications and configuration options, see the FJD RM21 product page.

Where does the RM21 fit best?

The RM21 is designed for professional sites where repeatable autonomous mowing can take over a meaningful part of the routine cutting workload. Typical applications include golf courses, sports facilities, estates and other large maintained grass areas.

It should not be treated as a universal replacement for every mower on a site. Fine turf, specialist presentation areas, confined spaces and unusual terrain may require a different FJD machine or a mixed fleet. Our robotic mower comparison explains the different roles of the RM21, RCM01, Titan, FRX and GM22S.

Navigation and autonomous operation

The RM21 uses RTK and LiDAR fusion for positioning and navigation. Its current product specification also includes intelligent path planning, multi-zone management, remote app monitoring, obstacle detection, physical bumpers and automatic return to charging.

For a professional deployment, the important part is the complete workflow: assess the site, define working zones and exclusions, establish charging and travel routes, configure the machine and then monitor performance as the mowing plan is refined.

Current published RM21 specifications

The current Grass Robotics product specification lists a 635 mm cutting width, 20–127 mm cutting-height range, 4 kWh battery and a maximum mowing area per charge of 12,000 m². Published maximum climbing ability is 20°, with a recommended working slope of 15°. Actual coverage and suitability depend on site conditions, working hours, terrain and configuration.

What should a UK buyer assess?

Start with the maintained area, current cutting frequency, terrain, access between mowing zones, desired finish and the amount of staff time currently committed to routine mowing. Charging location, security and interaction with players, visitors or other site users should also form part of the deployment plan.
